Welcome to the consultation website for plans for 12-52 Kingsgate Road, Canbury Place Car Park and some of Walter Street.

Background

You may be aware an application for a residential-led scheme was submitted to Kingston Council in 2019 and subsequently revised in June 2020. We are now in a position to bring forward revised proposals so that the scheme responds to local feedback, planning officers, local councillors and residents, we have summarised the key changes below.

Community consultation

We are committed to working with the local community and key stakeholders. As part of this we are meeting with resident associations and other local groups in the coming weeks.

We would like your view on the changes we are proposing, which include:

  • Reducing heights with tallest point reducing from 19 storeys to 15 storeys
  • Breaking up the massing into a series of smaller blocks with varying heights
  • Reducing the number of homes from 389 to around 265, to include both private and affordable rented homes
  • Increasing the proportion of 3-bed homes from 10% to 15%
  • Retaining three existing trees near the junction of Sopwith Way and Seven Kings Way
  • No longer proposing the redevelopment of the existing terrace at 13-43 Richmond Road, which will be excluded from the application site

The proposed redevelopment will still deliver:

  • The replacement of the existing car dominated environment with the closure of Kingsgate Road to vehicular traffic and the closure of the car park
  • A more pedestrian and cyclist friendly environment with new routes through the site including the extension of the Queenshurst linear park through the site to provide an improved link to Kingston Station
  • New/improved pedestrian and cycle crossings on Seven Kings Way, Sopwith Way and Richmond Road
  • A new public open space and public realm improvements, with around 50% of the site publicly accessible
